About Us

The Crossing Ball is a publication dedicated to presenting the truth of the World in a larger context. The symbol of a cross pushing at the interior walls of a circle, or a ball, symbolizes the view of G. K. Chesterton, Catholic writer, essayist and polemicist, that the circular, static nature of our world as a ball, a misshapen sphere, is misleading. For, just as the cross represents the intersection of Mercy and Justice, two lines infinitely traveling in opposite directions, and so the larger world of the Spirit, of the Kingdom of God is infinitely moving, never occupying the same space again. The Ball is confined, stifling and dull, but the Cross is dynamic, ever-changing and new. Here, we wish to express this sort of attitude that although the world of the senses offers us a cosmos of interminable movement and actions, the paradox of its drab, shoddy stagnancy pales in comparison to the inner life of Christ where Lewis described it as 'further in, further up.'
